Lodge Asoka No.1148 Scottish Constitution was duly constituted under a
Provincial Warrant dated 24th March 1915 A.D. granted by the Most Worshipful the Grand Master of all Scottish Freemasonry
in India, M.W.Bro the Hon'ble Mr. Justice F.C.O.Beaman, I.C.S, who regularly opened it in the Old English Warehouse, Mount
Road, Madras on the 3rd of April 1915. The Provincial Warrant was later confirmed under a Charter from the Grand Lodge of
Scotland dated 16th May 1915.
Towards the end of October 1959, responding to the aspirations
of Freemasons in India, the Grand Masters of the Grand Lodges of England, Ireland and Scotland felt the need for an independent
Grand Lodge of India and a proposal was made that if brethren in India decided in favour of an Independent Grand Lodge,
they would accept the decision. Out of 277 individual Lodges in India 145 opted for the new Grand Lodge of India. On Friday,
the 24th November 1961 at 10 minutes to 6 o' clock the Grand Lodge of India was officially constituted in the Ashoka Hotel,
New Delhi. There were three delegations from the Grand Lodge of Scotland, Ireland and England in that order. Major General
Dr. Sir Syed Raza Ali Khan, His Highness, The Nawab of Rampur was installed as the very first Grand Master of the Grand Lodge
of India.
On the inauguration of the Grand Lodge of India on the 24th of November
1961 (of which this Lodge is a Founder Member), Lodge Asoka was taken on the Registry of Grand Lodge of India under
No.93.
